Registering an event

Event organisers register events, and make sure a NAIT event number is assigned. An organiser doesn't need to be registered as a Person in Charge of Animals (PICA).

If you're an organiser, you need to:

  • get an event number by calling us on 0800 482 463 — we will register your event in NAIT
  • let exhibitors know the NAIT event number so they can accurately record stock movements.

You must not not let another organiser use your NAIT event number. While multiple events can be held at the same location, each event must have a unique NAIT number.

Regular events

For regular or annual events, you can use the same NAIT event number, as long as you update the event dates in NAIT.

Your NAIT event number is identified by a specific location. If you decide to hold the event elsewhere, you’ll need to register again, so you get a new NAIT event number for the new location.

Recording movements to an event

Creating a movement to an event is the same process as creating a movement to another farm, except that you record movements to and from that event against the organiser's event number. You don't need to complete an Animal Status Declaration (ASD).

You remain in charge of the animals

If you're the Person in Charge of Animals (PICA) for the livestock you send to an event, you're still their PICA while they're at the event.

Moving animals to a school pet day

When you move animals to a school pet day, it's a good idea to record movement to and from the school in NAIT. Check with the school to find out if they have registered the event with NAIT.
