Farmers or PICAs (people in charge of animals) are always required to tag and register their animals and record all livestock movements when moving animals to a new farm or grazing block.
If moving your herd to a new property, the NAIT number cannot move with the herd. You will need to register a new NAIT number at the property you are moving to and record a movement for the stock that have moved.
If you use an accredited information provider, you will need to advise them of your new NAIT number to keep your records up to date.
The TBfree herd number can stay with the herd to retain the TB status and testing history for your animals. You will need to contact OSPRI to update your TBfree herd records.
All animals moving from a TB movement control area must be pre-movement tested within 60 days of them moving.
If you are a departing herd manager and the current NAIT registered Person in Charge of Animals (PICA) for the animals you manage, you can apply to assign the NAIT number to the new manager. Likewise, if you are an incoming herd manager and will be the new Person in Charge of Animals on a day-to-day basis, you can apply to have an existing NAIT number assigned to you.
On contact with OSPRI, the required updates will be made to the registered TBfree herd number to ensure the correct information is listed for TB testing purposes.
If you have purchased a herd, you will need to register a new NAIT number and TBfree herd number and record NAIT receiving movements for the animals you have purchased.
If you have an existing NAIT number and TBfree herd number and intend to run the herds as one, you may use one NAIT number and herd number for all of your farms provided all of the farms are within a 10km radius of the central/main farm. You will need to contact OSPRI to assess the TB status of the herd. If the new herd is located outside of the 10km radius from the current farm, you will need to register a new NAIT and TBfree herd number and record NAIT movements between the properties.
To use one NAIT number for all your farms, they must all be within a 10km radius.
If you have purchased or lease a property that falls within the 10km radius, you can use one NAIT number for both properties. If you have purchased or lease a property that is outside of the 10km radius (e.g. the blue farm below), you will need to register a new NAIT number and record NAIT movements for animals moving between the properties.
