NAIT Device Standard consultation
Consultation on the NAIT Device Standards has closed.

The submission period closed on 15 June 2025.
Background
The NAIT Device Standard establishes the physical and performance requirements for animal identification devices approved for use in the National Animal Identification and Tracing (NAIT) scheme and the obligations that apply to any person or organisation licenced to manufacture or distribute approved NAIT devices under the scheme.
We are proposing changes to the standard in the aim of providing farmers with a broader range of solutions to achieve effective, lasting animal identification.
There are three areas of the Standards where we are proposing changes. These are:
- The requirements for NAIT devices.
- The approved formats for Visual Identification Codes.
- The loss of NAIT devices
We invited submissions from all NAIT scheme participants including farmers, saleyards, meat processors, tag manufacturers and RFID reader manufacturers.
What happens next
Your feedback will be analysed and considered, and a final recommendation will be presented to the OSPRI Board for approval.
