How to update animal production type

Use this step-by-step guide to change the production type for animals that are registered to your NAIT number or move to your property.

If you're changing an animal from the dairy production type to beef, you must do this within 62 days before the animal moves off-farm. Otherwise you will be subject to the dairy levy charge.

Updating the animal production type

Log in to your NAIT account and follow these steps.

  1. 1 Select the Registered animals link. Select Manage NAIT activities, then View/find/update – Animals.
  2. 2 Use the filter and search functions to find the animals you need to update. If you're updating dairy animals to beef, filter by the production type 'dairy' to find them.
  3. 3 Tick the box next to each animal you want to update. The assigned production type is displayed for each animal on the right-hand side.
  4. 4 Select Edit selected animal(s) then Update animal details.
  5. 5 Change the production type by selecting the appropriate production type from the dropdown menu. The update applies to all the animals you selected in Step 3.
  6. 6 Select Save and update at the bottom of the page to confirm the change.

Updating production type when you receive animals

Log in to your NAIT account and follow these steps.

  1. 1 After you have confirmed a receiving movement, select Show these animals — at the top of the page. Tick the box next to each animal you want to update.
  2. 2 To select all choose Select, then All from the dropdown menu.
  3. 3 Choose Edit selected animal(s), then Update animal details.
  4. 4 Change the production type by selecting the appropriate production type from the dropdown menu. The update applies to all the animals you selected in Step 2.
  5. 5 Select Save and update at the bottom of the page to confirm the change.
