Ed Thirkell, wearing round glasses, brown turtleneck t-shirt and a chequered jacket. I'm the National Manager for Mycoplasma bovis at OSPRI, leading a multidisciplinary team spread across New Zealand. Our team works closely with industry and farmers to be the first in the world to eradicate M. bovis.

I graduated from the London Royal Veterinary College with a Master's in business administration. Since then, I've worn a few different hats in the veterinary world, dabbling in education, private practice, and even selling some veterinary equipment. Most of my career has been spent working in the UK. Recently, I have worked in the NZ Government delivering national animal disease controls.

I'm all about "making it happen" and love seeing people shine as part of the process. I thrive on the confidence boost and personal growth that come with it.

I joined the OSPRI family in October 2023. What sets OSPRI apart for me is its exceptional people-focused culture. It’s the best I’ve worked in.  Colleagues are open, friendly, and hugely supportive, making it a super engaging and energising place to work.
