There can only be one PICA for each NAIT location number.

You can't change a PICA in NAIT yourself.  You can:

  • Call us on 0800 482 463
  • Fill out the PICA change request form. You need to know the NAIT location number for the property changing PICA and the TBfree herd number (reminder to update TB free database)
  • Set up someone as a delegate. If you need someone to help with day-to-day NAIT tasks but want to remain the PICA yourself, you can assign them as a PICA delegate instead. You can do this in your NAIT account. A delegate can handle tasks like recording movements and registering animals, but the overall legal responsibility still sits with you as the PICA.

Fill out the PICA change request form

Have your NAIT location number and TBfree herd number available.

FAQ

A Person in Charge of Animals (PICA) is the person who has day‑to‑day responsibility for the care, control, and management of NAIT‑registered animals at a location. Under the NAIT Act (2012), a PICA is responsible for meeting their NAIT obligations including (but not limited to) tagging, registering, recording movements, and keeping NAIT information up to date.

You have two options, depending on whether the person is already registered in NAIT.

If they are already registered:

  1. On your home page, click on the NAIT location number you want to add them to
  2. Select 'NAIT number details in the left column then '+ add new'
  3. Enter at least two pieces of information (e.g. surname and postcode) to search for them
  4. Click 'assign' next to the correct person
  5. You can set an expiry date if the delegation is temporary, and choose whether they receive notification emails
  6. Click 'continue' to complete the assignment

If they are not registered in NAIT:

  1. On your PICA homepage click 'Register User'
  2. Enter their details and choose the delegation type:
    - "Delegate" gives them access to your contact information as well as animal, movement and location details
    - "Limited Delegations" gives access to animal, movement and location details only
  3. Create a username and password for them (they will update when they log in)
  4. Provide their name, date of birth and contact details
  5. Select which NAIT location number(s) they can access
  6. Declare you're authorised to enter their details
  7. Click 'Register'
