In this guide, we will go through declaring non-NAIT animals at your location in the NAIT system.
While the NAIT scheme currently only applies to cattle and deer, under the NAIT Act, Persons in Charge of Animals, or PICAs, are required to declare certain animals that aren't cattle or deer if they also have them at their NAIT location. Those certain animals are sheep, goats, pigs, alpacas, llamas, emus, and ostriches. An estimate of the number of these animals needs to be declared in NAIT on the 30th of June every year.
Starting on the NAIT home screen, select Manage NAIT activities on the right of your NAIT number and choose View and update NAIT number registration details. Once you're on the details page of your NAIT number, towards the bottom of your screen, select Change beside Location details.
About halfway down the page there will be the question of whether there are other species at this location. You can select the type of species you have and then enter an approximate tally of the animals. You can update the existing tally or unselect the species if you're no longer farming those animals. Once you're happy with the number of animals, select Continue.
The system will show a green box if the update was successful. If you scroll down, you'll be able to see your updated tallies. After that, you're good to go.
Please remember — all information that is provided to the NAIT system must be accurate at the time it’s provided, and kept up to date. Thank you for supporting traceability and disease management in New Zealand.
