In this guide, we will go through declaring an animal as dead and reversing it in the NAIT system.
Starting on the NAIT home screen, select Manage NAIT activities and choose Animals under View, find and update. To find the animal you wish to declare as dead, you can either use the search functions, or you can select from the list of your registered animals. Once you know which animal you’re going to update, select the box to the left of the NAIT tag number. Once the box turns blue, select Edit selected animal and choose Record animal as dead.
On this page you will need to provide a few details about the animal's fate. Provide the date you first knew the animal was dead. It's important to note that animals need to be declared as dead in the NAIT system within 48 hours of the end of the day you first know the animal has died. You also need to provide whether or not the animal was slaughtered, and the carcass disposal method from the dropdown list.
After you press Save, the system will show a green box if the update was successful. You can see that this animal is no longer in your alive registered animals list.
If you ever accidentally update the wrong animal and you need to reverse the status, you can do so. Under the search filters, select Status and choose Dead. This will show you all the animals declared as dead on your NAIT number. Once you know which animals you’re going to update, select the box to the left of the NAIT tag number. Once the box turns blue, select Edit selected animal and choose Record animal as alive. The system will warn you that this update will remove the animal's kill data. If you are happy with this, you can press Save.
The system will show a green box if the update was successful and the animal will be back in your alive registered animals list. After that, you are good to go.
Please remember — all information that is provided to the NAIT system must be accurate at the time it’s provided, and kept up to date. Thank you for supporting traceability and disease management in New Zealand.
