Thank you to everyone that provided feedback as part of the NAIT Device Standard consultation.

The submission period closed on 15 June 2025.

The consultation aimed to:

  • ensure the standard remains fit for purpose
  • ensure People in Charge of Animals (PICAs) have a choice of NAIT devices
  • support effective and efficient traceability for cattle and deer.

Among other areas of focus, the consultation asked for views on approved NAIT ear tags, and tag losses.

We received a total of 151 submissions from a broad cross-section of stakeholders, including farmers, PICAs, tag manufacturers and saleyards.

After comprehensive analysis of submissions, the NAIT Board approved changes to the range of approved NAIT devices to include one-piece RFID tags and removal of an unused visual identification code format.
