NAIT Device Standard consultation
Consultation on the NAIT Device Standard has closed.
Thank you to everyone that provided feedback as part of the NAIT Device Standard consultation.
The submission period closed on 15 June 2025.
The consultation aimed to:
- ensure the standard remains fit for purpose
- ensure People in Charge of Animals (PICAs) have a choice of NAIT devices
- support effective and efficient traceability for cattle and deer.
Among other areas of focus, the consultation asked for views on approved NAIT ear tags, and tag losses.
We received a total of 151 submissions from a broad cross-section of stakeholders, including farmers, PICAs, tag manufacturers and saleyards.
After comprehensive analysis of submissions, the NAIT Board approved changes to the range of approved NAIT devices to include one-piece RFID tags and removal of an unused visual identification code format.
