Register a TBfree herd

If you're a Person in Charge of Animals (PICA) with cattle or deer, you need to register for TB management with OSPRI.

Use this form to register a TBfree herd and receive a TBfree herd number.

If you have both cattle and deer, you'll need to submit a separate registration for each herd type.

TBfree registration

Registering with TBfree enrols you in New Zealand's TB management programme. We are working to eradicate Bovine TB from cattle, deer and possums.

You'll receive a TBfree herd number (previously known as an AHB number). This is separate from your NAIT location number. This enters you into our on-farm TB testing programme. How often your herd is tested is determined by the location and the TB risk of your area.

How often your animals are tested depends on where your property is located and the TB risk in that area. You can check your area's TB status using our disease control area maps.

If you are in a Movement Control Area you will be required to have pre-movement testing within 60 days of the movement.

If testing is required, our team will contact you to arrange it.

Information required

Please have the following information ready:

  • Your NAIT location number

  • Details of the cattle or deer you are registering
