In this guide, we will go through declaring an animal as missing, and found, in the NAIT system.

Starting on the NAIT home screen, select Manage NAIT activities and choose Animals under View, find and update. This will take you to your list of registered animals. You will need to select which animal you need to update. You can either use the search function or choose from the list. Once you know which animal, select the box to the left of the NAIT tag number. Once the box turns blue, choose Edit selected animal, and from the dropdown select Record animal as missing. This will take you to where you need to provide the date you first knew the animal was missing.

Remember, missing animals need to be declared in the NAIT system within 48 hours of the end of the day you first knew they were missing.

Once you’ve pressed Save, the system will display a green box if the update was successful.

If you ever incorrectly declare an animal as missing, or the animal shows back up, you can update the animal to Found under the search filters on the registered animals page, select Status, and change it to Missing. Then press Search. This will show you all animals registered to your NAIT number with that status. Choose the animal you wish to update by selecting the box to the left of the NAIT tag number. Choose Edit selected animal and this time select Record animal as found. You need to provide the date you first knew the animal was no longer missing, or became found. Once you’ve pressed Save, the system will display a green box if the update was successful. You should be able to see the animal back under your registered animals list. After that, you’re good to go.

Please remember — all information that is provided to the NAIT system must be accurate at the time it’s provided, and kept up to date. Thank you for supporting traceability and disease management in New Zealand.
