In this guide, we will go through registering animals once they've been NAIT-tagged.
Starting on the NAIT home screen, navigate to the Register animals link at the top of your screen. Once you select this, you will be given options for registering animals.
You can choose to import a CSV file of tag numbers and animal details, or you can enter the animal details yourself through a range of methods. We are going to enter the animal details ourselves.
We have 3 different ways we can register an animal. We can type the tag numbers in manually, select from a list of our purchased unused tags, or upload a file with just the tag numbers. We’re going to type in the tag numbers manually. Selecting this will provide you a free text box where you can type in the tag numbers of the animals you wish to register.
Tag number can mean their 15-digit RFID number or the visual tag number printed on the outside of the tag. You can separate the different tags either by entering a comma after each of them, or by putting each tag number on a new line. You can also copy and paste a list of tag numbers straight from a file. Once you've entered these, press Continue, where you will be taken to provide the animal details.
If you're registering multiple animals, these details will apply to all of them.
Fields you must provide include animal type, whether they're cattle or deer, production type, whether they're beef, dairy, venison, velvet or trophy, an approximate date of birth, and a NAIT number of birthplace, which will auto-populate to your NAIT number.
While the rest of the information is not required, you may choose to provide this for your own animal management reasons. These can also be useful for disease control purposes.
Once you've entered this, you can press Register, and the system will let you know if the registration was successful. From here, you can choose to show the animals and the system will present them under your registered animals list. Now, your animals are registered with important traceability information.
Please remember — all animals need to be tagged and registered before 180 days of birth or before their first off-farm movement, whichever comes first. Thank you for supporting traceability and disease management in New Zealand.
