In this guide, we will go through registering yourself as a Person in Charge of Animals, or PICA, and registering a NAIT number.
Starting on ospri.co.nz, select NAIT login to be taken to the front page of the NAIT system where you can register and create an account.
When setting up your PICA account, the fields with the red asterisks are compulsory and must be provided.
Start by setting yourself up with a username and password. Your username is a nickname that is unique to your account. It may be made up of both letters and/or numbers and may be up to 50 characters long.
Your password must be made up of both letters and numbers and must be a minimum of 8 characters long. It's important to keep your password safe and ensure you don't share it with anyone else.
Under personal details, your first name, last name and date of birth must be provided. These details tell us that we have your account registered to the right person.
Under contact details, we need both your physical and postal address. When you start typing in your address, the system will suggest possible matches. If the system can't find a match or the one it provides isn't correct, you can update it yourself. Press Search and enter your address manually. This will allow you to enter your address details as you know them to be correct. Once you press Save, the system will validate it for you.
We need you to provide us with at least 1 phone number to reach you on. Make sure to check Preferred even if you've only provided 1 number.
You can choose your preferred method of correspondence and time for contact. This can help our Support Centre when reaching out to you.
Provide us with the best email address to reach you at and let us know your notification preferences — whether you'd like to receive all of them or only the essentials.
Once you've done this, it's time to register your NAIT number. Start by choosing a location type that best represents your property. Enter your farm address — the place where your animals are physically located. Like before, if the system can't find it or it isn't showing right, you can follow the same steps to enter it manually. The map will begin to load and take you to your location.
Press Add parcels and select the one that best represents your location. The parcel will turn blue once it's been added.
If you're in charge of animals at multiple locations within a 10-kilometre radius, you can register them under the 1 NAIT number by selecting their land parcels. If the parcel you select is outside of the radius, it'll turn red. This means the parcel needs to be unselected and a separate NAIT number will need to be registered for it later. If you're happy with all the parcels you've selected, press Continue.
Enter a property name for your NAIT number. This is displayed to other users and can help them if they're searching for your NAIT number.
You can also list any relevant industry codes like participant codes, TBfree herd numbers and dairy supply numbers.
Let us know your primary production type, any additional production types and the enterprise type for the farm.
Give us a current tally of stock on your property, including any non-NAIT animals that might be at the location.
If you're happy with all of this information, tick that you're the person in charge and press Continue. This will take you back to the first page of information. This is a good time to do another check and make sure it all looks good. Once you've done this, scroll down to the bottom to accept the terms of use, confirm the details you've entered are correct, and press Register.
The system will ask you to do a security capture to make sure you're a real person and protect the system from spam. After this, your NAIT number will be generated and you're all registered and good to go.
