What to expect

Generally, when we think about biosecurity we go straight to the big guns - M.Bovis and Foot and Mouth. What about diseases you are working hard to avoid? BVD, TB, Drench resistance and then those that we have taught ourselves to accept - Johnes, Footrot.

Join us for this informative and participatory workshop where you can build a plan to protect your patch from things that would be a catastrophic disaster for our sector to the things that cost you annually. Attendees will come away with an understanding of drystock biosecurity guidelines, on farm interventions and practical tools like a Biosecurity WOF to protect their patch.

This workshop will be facilitated by Will Halliday (BVSc), Senior Manager of Technical Policy for Beef + Lamb New Zealand and supported by the Northern South Island Regional Extension Team.

We'll cover:

  • Showcasing real pest‑control tools and methods used in the field.
  • Farmers will have opportunities to ask questions, share experiences, and discuss best practice for possum control on their own properties.
  • NAIT obligations will be covered in a clear, practical way, focusing on date‑of‑birth recording and land parcel accuracy in NAIT.
  • A controlled, educational post‑mortem demonstration on a possum and a pigs head will help participants understand where to look for signs that may indicate TB infection.
