Moving Day — Be a mate, update NAIT

Remember your NAIT obligations this Moving Day, and help us maintain the integrity of our biosecurity system.

Moving Day is the busiest time of the year for livestock movements. This can result in poor NAIT compliance, as farmers contend with all the demands of moving.

However, when NAIT compliance is compromised, our traceability system is threatened, and we run the risk of having a system that won’t perform in the event of a disease outbreak.

Making it easy to complete NAIT requirements for Moving Day

We know Moving Day can be stressful, so we’re committed to making it easy to fulfil NAIT requirements over this period.

If you’re moving farm with your animals, you need to:

  1. Make sure you have tagged and registered all your animals and your NAIT account reflects what is on the farm
  2. Create a new NAIT location at the farm you’re moving to and register all grazing blocks you’re in charge of
  3. Ensure third-party software suppliers/stock agents have this new number, and you have assigned them access to your NAIT account as information providers
  4. Record and confirm movements to new NAIT locations. You must complete this within 48 hours of the movement taking place
  5. Deregister old NAIT location numbers.

If you’re moving farm but the herd is staying where it is, you need to:

  1. Complete and sign a Person in Charge of Animals (PICA) change form, then submit it to info@ospri.co.nz
  2. Ensure you register as the new PICA within 48 hours of arriving at the new farm.

If you’re no longer a PICA, you don’t have to be registered in NAIT.
