How to upload replacement tags

Use this step-by-step guide to load details of replacement tags to NAIT. You may need to do this if the previous tag was lost or damaged, or if the wrong tag has been registered previously.

Preparing the CSV file

Your CSV file must include all of the column headings in the correct order. This includes headings for optional columns you are leaving blank.

How to complete each column

Enter the new RFID tag; that is RFID of the replacement tag. Load the tag number in an 'unused' or 'lost' state in the system (that is, it cannot be in use for another animal).

  • For tag lost, enter TL.
  • For tag damaged, enter TD.
  • For the wrong tag, enter WT.

This is a compulsory field if you don't provide a NAIT visual tag number in Column D.

You can only update the RFID if it is already registered to an animal. This is the unique 16-character code that relates to each animal's NAIT tag. It is provided by tag manufacturers or can be read with a scanner. It does not have to be provided if a NAIT Visual ID is provided. Formats we accept include:

  • 00000 0 982 000196588496
  • 942 000002422333
  • 982 000161531687
  • 0982000190869343
  • 0982 000190869343

This is a compulsory field if you don't provide a NAIT RFID number in Column C.

This is the information printed on the outside of the tag. The number must already be registered to an animal to update the animal's details.

Reading tags

This field is optional.

You can choose to enter a reference number of your own — for example, 1,2,3,4. This will make it easier for you to identify which record — that is, which row of your spreadsheet — is incorrect if you make a mistake in your CSV.

Enter the NAIT number of the location where the animal is currently.
