How to upload livestock slaughter details

For each animal processed at a meat processing location, you will need to record both the movement of the animal to your location and the slaughter information for each animal in the NAIT system. To do this, you will need to perform what is known as a “Kill upload”.

A kill upload will record both the movement of the animal to your location and the animals kill all in one transaction. A kill upload can be done through the user interface in the NAIT system (suitable for smaller organisations), through a CSV. File uploaded directly into the NAIT system or through external software that can interface with the NAIT system.

You will need to provide the following information for each animal in a kill upload:

  • Animal type
  • Kill date
  • Slaughter
  • NAIT number sent from
  • Meat Processor NAIT number
  • NAIT RFID
  • NAIT Visual ID (not required if the RFID is provided)
  • Disposal Method
  • Carcass disease status

Recording a kill upload through the NAIT system user interface

This option is more suitable for recording kill information for smaller groups of animals with the same slaughter details.

  • Log into the NAIT system as a PICA Meat Processor or a PICA delegate for a meat processor.
  • Navigate to your registered animals page by clicking on the NAIT number that received the animals from your home page.
  • Select “Enter Kill Data”
  • Fill in the details on this screen
    • Sending NAIT number. This is the NAIT number that the animals came from
    • Number of animals without tags. This is any animals that are not exempt from tagging (i.e. Fallow or Trophy deer) that were received without tags. Enter the total received and then enter the animal type (Cattle or Deer).
    • Number of exempt animals. Enter the number received and then whether they were Fallow or Trophy deer. You will then be asked to enter a description for the animals in a free text box that will appear below.
  • You will then be asked to enter the tag numbers of other animals. This is where you enter the individual RFID tag numbers for each tagged animal received. There are two options for entering the tag numbers:
    • Select “Type in tag visual ID or RFID” to manually type the tag numbers. This is suitable when receiving smaller numbers of animals. You will be shown a text box where you can enter each RFID tag number individually. There is a help section to the right of this page that shows how to format the tags.
    • Select “Upload a file with tag numbers” which is a CSV. File containing only the RFID tag numbers. Click here for instructions on how to format a tag file. Once you have formatted your file, select where the file is in your computer and select “Open”
  • Next you will be asked to enter the slaughter information for the animals.
    • Select the date of death
    • Whether the animals were slaughtered
    • Enter the disposal method. “Meat Processor – for human consumption” is automatically populated, however you can change this to another option that may suit more e.g. Slaughtered for pet food.
    • Select any of the available options for carcass disease status. You can select multiple options.
    • Select Save

This will have created a movement of the animals to your meat processor location and marked them as slaughtered.

Uploading a CSV File

This option is more suitable for recording large amounts of animals at once. Because each row contains all the movement and slaughter information for one RFID, you can include multiple animals with different movement or slaughter details in the one upload.

  • Log into the NAIT system as a PICA Meat Processor or a PICA Delegate for a meat processor.
  • Select “Import CSV file”
  • Select “Click to upload file” next to “Kill upload”
  • Select your kill upload file and select “Open”, click here for more detail about formatting the file
  • Your file will be processed. You will be presented with a message at the top of the screen advising how many records were successful and if there were any failures or warnings.
  • You will also be provided with a results file. It is a good idea to save a copy of this file as this also includes the animals TBFree slaughter levy production type which you will need to charge.
