New NAIT accreditation scheme open to applicants

We’re inviting applications under our new NAIT accreditation programme.

Our new NAIT accreditation programme is going live from Monday 28 March 2022.

To gain NAIT accreditation, applicants will have to go through screening that includes completing education modules and audit assessments.

The voluntary scheme is intended to improve the standard of NAIT account service providers such as saleyards, meat processors and information providers. It follows a review of the Mycoplasma bovis outbreak, which highlighted issues with NAIT data.

In future, NAIT accredited organisations will experience increased monitoring, performance checks and regular audits. This is expected to build more farmer and industry confidence in those who record information about livestock and their movements in NAIT.

We will contact NAIT accredited organisations or individuals in coming weeks. They will have four months from the date of notification to let us know whether they wish to reapply for accreditation. If they choose not to reapply, they won’t be able to undertake NAIT account services on behalf of farmers, even if they have an existing contract.

We encourage farmers to start talking with their NAIT account provider to find out whether they plan to reapply for accreditation, and discuss options from there.

We will publish a list of new accredited organisations on our website, and farmers will be able to select their preferred service provider.
