How to upload a movement file

Find out how to use a CSV file to upload animal movement records to the NAIT system.

Preparing the CSV file

Your CSV file must include all of the column headings, in the correct order. This includes headings for optional columns you are leaving blank.

How to complete each column

This is a compulsory field. Enter the NAIT number of the entity sending the animal.

This is a compulsory field. Enter the NAIT number of the entity receiving the animal.

This is a compulsory field if you don't provide a NAIT visual tag number in Column D.

You can only update the RFID if it is already registered to an animal. This is the unique 16-character code that relates to each animal's NAIT tag. It is provided by tag manufacturers or can be read with a scanner. It does not have to be provided if a NAIT Visual ID is provided. Formats we accept include:

  • 00000 0 982 000196588496
  • 942 000002422333
  • 982 000161531687
  • 0982000190869343
  • 0982 000190869343

This is a compulsory field if you don't provide a NAIT RFID number in Column C.

This is the information printed on the outside of the tag. The number must already be registered to an animal to update the animal's details.

Reading tags

This field is optional.

You can choose to enter a reference number of your own — for example, 1,2,3,4. This will make it easier for you to identify which record — that is, which row of your spreadsheet — is incorrect if you make a mistake in your CSV.

Only complete this column if you are sending the animal from your NAIT number.

  • You can enter only one date per animal sent.
  • The date may be up to four days in advance.
  • Date must be in a recognisable format — for example:
    • dd/mm/yyyy
    • dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss
    • yyyy-mm-dd.

Please note any time component will not be stored in the database.
